Do lots of practice problems, if for no other reason than to get familar with your reference materials. Don't take too many references in with you - if they won't all fit in a backpack, you have too many.
Concentrate on specific types of problems to be an "expert" in, and ignore subjects that you aren't comfortable attempting.
