I recently purchase a Kenmore Elite washing machine (60hz) in the USA but I live in Jamaica (50hz). When I use the machine the first load runs fine but the 2nd load take forever to complete. Can I continue to run this machine without damaging the motor or do I have to use a converter of some kind to boost or change the frequency and if so what would you recommend?

Your timer is running at a lower speed, only about 17% longer than @ 60HZ. The timer is motorized as well as the drive motor. Eventually, they will both fail. You need to change to 50% on both the timer and motor. You probably get replacement timer and motor from Sears (the Kenmore vendor). However, the drive motor will fail (no way of predicting when), and since it is running hot, it may short and cause a fire. Don't leave it unattanded. If there is a converter for the current needed to supply the washer, the converter will most likely be more costly thaan replacements. Good luck! |
