Marella, gotta ask, how old are you?

Maybe on the Star Ship Enterpise, but Diesel engines? Hmmmm.
I would like to know if there is any diagnostic use to measuring the vacuum pressure from the intake manifold of a "diesel" engine as compared to a petrol engine. I'm guessing, diesels use an external power source to generate vacuum in the brake booster(vacuum pump powered by the alternator shaft?).
my question relates to whether there is any vacuum generated in a diesel engine and whether one could arrive at the same conclusions of diagnostic checks(cylinder firing/a piston ring leak/etc) as with petrol SI engines by using a vacuum gauge?
