Selection of Steel Round for application in weightlifting equipment

    Hello,

This is my first post here. I am basically looking for a steel for making a barbell. The barbell will be 220 cm long (standard Olympic barbell). I probably cannot post any link yet. So my requirements are that the bar should flex to a certain degree but return to straightness. So it needs to have high tensile strength (~ 190000 psi) and yield strength (~ 170000 psi). Standard alloy steels seem to be too brittle at these strengths. So maybe I need some spring steel. Also the steel will be knurled and machined before final assembly. Can someone help me out please?

    Thanks

170 ksi? A larger diameter barbell would allow the use of much more industry standard materials..
