Thanks this nis a great stuff about the engeneering purposes.
I would like to request some help differentiating finished from semi-finished bolt.
I've been specifying for year nuts according to my description below. Changing materials of bolts and nut depending on service.
ITEM - STUD-BOLT,THREADED FULL LENGTH, W/ TWO SEMI-FINISHED HEAVY HEXAGON NUTS EACH.
MATERIAL
STUD - CHROME-MOLY ALLOY ASTM-A320, GRADE L7
NUTS - CARBON-MOLY ALLOY ASTM-A194, GRADE 4
LENGTH - EFFECTIVE THREAD LENGTH EXCLUDING ENDPOINTS PER ASME B16.5
One vendor recently asked what is the meaning of "Semi finished nuts" and I am not able to give him an answer.
ASME B 1.20 and B 18.2.1 does not say anything about the semi finished and finished state of nuts.
My question is "what is the difference finished between semi-finished nuts"
Hope someone can help me with this.

"SEMI-FINISHED" means that the hardware has been manufactured but not finished as in there will be no plating or heat treating done on the components.
