I have a platform with a railing that sits on top of stilts. The stilts attach to the sides of the platform but have no cross bracing below 7 feet. I would like it to support at least 500lb, preferably 1000lb per stilt. The stilts are 2" square tubing, .125 wall, steel. They are 10' long, have locking wheels at the bottom, and bolt to the outside of the platform at the base of the platform (7' high) and to the railing supports (10' high) Currently it has very little wobble with 500lb total across 4 stilts.
I am wondering what a safe working load would be on these stilts, and what options I have as far as other materials that are corrosion resistant without being painted. A coating is possible as long as it is wear resistant.
I am thinking of using aluminum tubing but I was worried about the stability and life with the wobble of the stilts. Cost is also a large factor so I do not want to go to a full stainless steel.
