Hi
I have to calculate press force required for pushing inner retaining ring on tapered (5-10 deg.)
bushing into the groove.
This is standard inner retaining ring for 42mm bore. To squeeze it to 42mm 285 N are needed at the plier tips.
PLEASE HELP!!!
THANK YOU

Thank you,
I've done it already - not much of help.
Too many variables. Friction, surface condition, tooling features. Time for some testing.
One principal point of concern when installing these rings in this manner is the hardness of the surface in the taper. C-rings have very sharp and hard edges that can quickly cut into a tapered bore with soft surface when being installed without being otherwise compressed. For applications where an auxliary installation compression adapter is used this is addressed by using a very hard adapter material and/or surface hard coating; but, if the taper is in the mating part, this material selection or taper surface modification is often not appropriate.
