replicate gun recoil with a solenoid

Hi there !
i am trying to replicate a gun recoil with a solenoid impact.
the goal is to be able to achieve energy of 1 joule .
is this possible ?
how can i calculate the wattage needed ?
my limitations :
solenoid length 12 inches
solenoid diameter: 1.5 inches

With that kind of diameter and length, I think I would be looking at pneumatic rather than electrical.
