Really good reasons to have in-house 3D printing

I need to justify a departmental 3D printer other than "it's cool".

    Help me!

How do you used your 3D printer?

easy prototypes for bespoke parts / machines? And you'll have something to present at design concept meetings.

"It's cool" is the only reason you need, though.

That's the same argument I have encountered several times in my career. For example if you're rocking along just fine using 2D AutoCAD how do you justify the investment in 3D Solidworks to management? Only after they see it in use do they truly understand its value. You might start keeping a log or journal for the next few months of every time you think a 3D printer might have been useful. Then present that as data, including the cost of other methods and the time saved if an actual 3-dimensional part had been available to manipulate.
