Moment of Inertia - Cylinder with Flats

    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm not totally sure this is the right section to post in but here goes!!

I need to calculate the moment of inertia for a cylinder with flats. The axis of rotation is through the centre of that diagram (see crude Paint drawing attached).

For information, the ultimate aim is to calculate the bending moment through this section when loading as a single point cantilever.

    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

You would use the area moment of inertia negative section method.

area moment of inertia of circle minus the partial circle area moment of inertia
