I have no idea what's going on, can you create and post an animation of operation?
Does anyone have experience with a similar type of mechanism?
I am trying to prove to concept of this design.
The intent is that the CW rotation of swivel cam will acts on the pivot balls, causing the jaws to open. CCW rotation will cause the jaws to close.
I am not as concerned with the extension spring and the pins, as I am with the forces acting on the jaws spheres.
Please advise.
Thank you in advance.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
You have not provided sufficient information to allow any of the forces to be calculated.
If you are concerned with the stresses in the ball look up hertzian contact stress formulas.
Thank you for this!
Sorry for the late response.
The idea is that the wall plates will be restricted, thus restricting the jaws from rotating. The swivel cam will engage the spheres on the jaws, and the jaws will pivot on the pins. The spring will control the amount the jaws can open and close - based on the torque. I spoke to a colleague and he was able to give me some guidance.
Thank you for responding!
