I need help determining if the Axial loading of the specified Versa Lam Columns is sufficient for the structure.
The basic build is a two-story structure with 8' ceiling heights and exterior walls made of 2" x 6" common construction.
The first floor has walls on three sides with an interior open space supported by columns.
The second floor also has 2" x 6" exterior walls and 2" x 4" interior walls.
Typical UBC live load 40 psf and dead load 10 psf, No snow or roof loading.
I will attach a drawing of the specifics and details.
My main concern is whether the BC Versa Lam LVL 1.8E 2650 5-1/4" x 7-1/4" Columns can support the second floor.
There are two different spacings, 16'-0" O.C. and 12'-0" O.C.
I prefer the 16' O.C. if it is structurally sound.
Boise Cascade gives the following ratings for the Versa Lam LVL 1.8E 2650 as follows:
Allowable axial load (lbs) 8'-0" length
100% = 35,760
115% = 38,090
125% = 39,480
If anyone could do the math, I'd greatly appreciate it.
