can anyone tell why the sharp cutting edge gives good surface finish?

Hello Sathish and welcome to the forum,

The answer to your question is loaded with ifs and buts... and I suspect the is a homework question? There's a LOT more to attaining a smooth surface finish than just the cutting edge.

But think about it for a minute. If you spin a part up in a lathe and machine it with a brick... then spin another part up and machine it with a smoooooth cutting edge... which do you think will be more likely to have a nice finish?

Depends on the grain-size of the brick material! If it was an Arkansas Stone brick, I am going for it.

    Sorry, sometimes, can't help myself.
