New York State PE Assessment - taking ages

Hi there.
I'm a British engineer who's been in the US for 8 years, green card holder etc. I have 9.5 years experience and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a top ten UK university.

I took the FE last October and passed, and applied to the NYSED board for assessment for the PE, with the goal of taking the exam this October.
I applied before the deadline in April 2012. In June I checked in to see if the application was OK. They confirmed they had it and I'd hear by early July.
In early July they said mid-July.
Now they say I'll hear within a month.

The deadline for exam registration is September 6th.

Is anyone else applying in New York? Have you received your assessment/eligibility yet?

PEs of NY - how long did the assessment take for you?
