Innovative Multi-Chamber Vacuum Carburizing System | |
|
SECO/WARWICK is introducing a new and innovative multi-chamber Vacuum Carburizing system to provide expanded production capacity with their Universal HPQT single and double chamber units. A new test system is open in the SECO/WARWICK R&D facility in Swiebodzin, Poland for running customer trials and process development. Analysts predict an upward trend in vacuum carburizing from 1% of the market in 2000 to 13% in 2010, and multi-chambered systems provide expanded capacity with fully automated operation.
How It Works: The system consists of a modular furnace that combines two or more processing chambers and one movable quenching module. The module performs double duty as a transfer mechanism and quench chamber. The module is driven on tracks and utilizes a built-in telescopic load transfer mechanism. The quenching/transfer module is positioned in front of the storage table where it picks up and transfers the load into any of the available processing chambers. Transfer of the load to the processing chamber is performed under vacuum, which allows the hot zone to remain at temperature at all times resulting in a shorter heat-up cycle. When the carburizing cycle is finished, the load is moved back to the quenching/transfer module where it is quenched at pressures up to 20 BAR. The combined benefits of high gas pressure, gas velocity and the cold chamber makes it possible to quench the most challenging and commonly used steels, such as 5120, 8620, and 52100. High output and superior vacuum carburizing technology are the obvious benefits of this configuration. The installation can grow with demand - customers can begin with just one processing chamber, and then expand it to up to five processing chambers as the workload increases. This equipment is fully automated and requires minimum supervision. About SECO/WARWICK Vacuum Carburizing, a unique approach Vacuum carburizing furnaces produce work with a bright finish; no scale build up and limited distortions can reduce total cycle time by limiting, or eliminating post treatment machining. The system produces considerable cost savings with relatively shorter cycle time with much lower media consumption. Vacuum carburizing eliminates pertinent issues such as CO and NOx emission, utilization of quenching oil, and disposal of post treatment washing medias. The SECO/WARWICK vacuum carburizing technology is based on a mixture of three different gases. This patented, low cost technology provides a very clean process (without the internal oxidation associated with Acetylene based technology) with repeatable results.
