I too am designing a system involving torsion springs. In my case I am finding it tricky to design because I would like to implement 2 opposion torsion springs with different pre-loads. I hope to obtain a suitable set of parameters by playing around with prototypes.

Could you please send me your spreadsheet, as it sounds like a very useful tool in torsion spring design?

: Input - wire diameter, mean coil diameter, #coils, material constants
: Output - max torque, twist angle, spring rate, diameter reduction
: It uses standard formulae from a Shigley and Mischke textbook. Email me and I will send the spreadsheet to you.
