Anchor bolt projection

I am looking for information regarding the number of threads that should project above a nut on an anchor bolt. I have always heard the bolt should project atleast the thickness of the nut above the nut. today it was suggested to use 1.5 the dia. of the bolt above the nut. I know there is a standard, but I have not been able to find it.
