I have a gear that is 27" O.D. x 7-1/2" thick x 5.316 I.D. & a pinion that is 14" O.D. x 7-1/2" thick x 5.316 I.D. I need to know if I made the pinion out of 4140/Flame Hardened and the gear out of ductile not hardened what this be a good idea. Should i flame harden both of the gears?
