: Does connecting a copper fitting to a black iron cause a galvanic reation? Is a dielectric union required?
I would say "yes" to the the dielectric union. Be sure the unit on the isolated side is grounded with a copper ground rod or equal. If this is a water heater installation, and the the water heating method is electrical then for sure ground the heater to a good source. Using dielectric unions will preclude joint problems during the life of the heater installation.
