I've done this too, it has been years and I nearly forgot.
Most plastic injection companies use plastic in
the a form that looks a lot like rice and or shot. Heating
your tool and inserting into a cup of it does
indead result in a bonded coating of plastic,
but may need some dressing. I bet you could
get a small quanity of "bead" from an injection
shop supplier of a local shop.
