I am an engineering student currently working on a project. Basically I am calculating bending moments on square tubing material. The material has a yield strength of 60000 psi and is a square tube (2"x2") with a wall thickness of 0.105 inches, further it is perforated on all four sides over its length with 7/16" diameter holes on 1" centers. The force is being applied on one end normal to one side (in a cantilever fashion). The question I have (and would really appreciate your help on) is: Should the holes be factored in when calculating the section modulus? If so how?
