I was wondering if anyone knew what types of inspection may be done on a non-magnetic weld material? Do radiography and ultrasonic tests work for non-magnetic materials? Any info would be appreciated.

I work in a testing lab. Radiography will work as well as Ultrasonics. Not mentioned was penetrant. Depending on the sensitivity you're looking for a cost effective surface only inspection would be Wet Flourescent Penetrant. Sub surface both ultrasonic and radiographic have their limitations and addtional costs. |

sure you can preform radiography and ultrasonic inspection on non magnetic material. A factor would be the configuration of the part and what kind of defect you are looking for. if it is surface or subserface. Another factor would be the configuration of the part you are trying to inspect. If you give me a better description of the part and matiral i can help you out further with more information. |

Die Penetrant check & Radiography are most effective. Ultrasonic inspection will work if the surface of the weld is ground flat. |

There are a number of options depending on the material you are testing and the location of the area you wish to check. Dye penetrant, Flourescent dye penetrant, ultra sonic, eddy current, x-ray, pressurised gas, black lamps..... Have a look at ndtsupply.com for the types available, or come back with more details. Ultrasonic and radiography should both work on non-ferrous materials. In addition, you can do penetrant inspections or dye inspections to find surface flaws.
