When using galvanneal, does one specify a roll or grain direction? Or is the annealling process long enough to pretty much eliminate the grain orientation? Thanks! |

Galvanneal'ed steel is simply applying a process of galvanizing and annealing the material. The steel is still rolled and has a grain orientation. Specifying grain direction is typically done for post forming operations on sheet or plate. The grain orientation is specified such that most (all if possible by design) of the bend radii are parallel to grain orientation on the stock. This is done for optimal strength and forming capability on the material and end-item. |

Thanks for the reply Kelly. That's what I thought too - and I spec'd out a grain orientation for a formed sheetmetal part I am purchasing (as I normally would). The vendor however said there is no orientation for galvanneal'ed steel...hence my confusion and subsequent post. |
