Hello
Does anyone know what is the long term wearing/corrosion difference between using plated vs hot dipped galvanized bolts? Is one any better than the other?

I would like to add this comment:
It depends on the class of thread too, galv tends to come off and guald up in tight thread or loaded thread conditions. Galv (zink) is not used in aircraft much because it is not a smooth, strong adhearing coating. At least not as a hot-dip method. Electro plating can provide much better adhearing and thickness control. This is important when controling the thread class.

What kind of wear are you reffering to? Environmental, friction?

The mating plating/material should be a consideration as well. Galanized fasteners are readily available and inexpensive. Other plating, such as nickel, is not as gall resistance and costs more.
