Many Australian schools are using Pro Desktop software. It is a good CAD program and is easy to learn. The basic program is free and can be downloaded and is upgradable to a full engineering version. The site information for the download states:

Pro/DESKTOP Express
This is a 3D CAD package developed specifically for engineers and designers who do not need the full functionality of Pro/ENGINEER.
