Hi...I have a design of one end fixed with bolt, while another end is carrying a reciprocating mechanism of motor. What i need to consider instead of mass of beam, mass of motor and mechanical parts, to avoid massive deflection? Do i need to consider the force induced by reciprocating mechanism as simple as W2r? |

Yes, not only the static but the dynamic forces of the mass on the beam. You need to understand modes of vibration and resonance. If you have the dimensions and the data, maybe we can add some additional pointers , if this not a homework problem. |

You should consider all types of loads to which the structure will be subjected. In reality, some loads will be insignificant compared to others and can be ignored. You must have some judgement of how much each load might be to make the judgement of whether or not it is insignificant. |
