Question
Max shear stress = 5100 psi Find Max Load (F)
1" - 8 Bolt in a double shear condition (like a pin in a clevis) there is a shear condition on the shank 1" dia and one on the threads .8647 minor root dia Do I calculate the force on both for my answer or just on the root dia since it takes less force to shear at that location?

The shank of your bolt should act as the pin, with the threaded portion used merely to retain the pin in the assy. In this case only the shank would see shear. |
