I want to design a support for timming belt which length about 3 meters, width 73mm thickness 20mm. It has to be wear and corrosion resistance. I use this support belt in squaring and chamfering machine. Now I use steel plate with hardchrome finished, it thickness 50 micron. We have a life time problem with that kind of design, the chrome layer easily worn out, it only last for 3 month. I want it life time 1 year. I need to know what is the best material for my support belt. Thank's Regrads, Snapper |

Hi,
Have you considered cam bearings, they can be purchased in several sizes and even on stocks (meaning threaded shafts [a bit like a mushroom]). These would be applied to a support bulkhead along the path of the belt to provide a rolling support. If this is not possible you may try phenolic, (in a fiberglass/cotton seed fiber mix [I think]), very tough and hard on cutters .. it is best to have it water jet cut to shape .. can be purchased through plastics supply houses. Some auto engines use it spring loaded to keep the timming chain tight as it expands with wear. -randy- The worst suggestion of you lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |
