Die-roll definition

Hi, would someone be able to give me a clear definition of Die-roll. I am currently running a simulation project on Fine-blanking and just can't find the right words to define what die-roll is! Thanks.

Die -roll is the amount of pull on  material before the cutting action begins. In othe words die-roll is the depth the cutting punch enters the material before it actually begins the cutting process. There are a lot of factors that will have an effect on the amount of die-roll present, such as the sharpness of the cutting punch, die clearance,  and the hardness of the material being cut In the Fineblanking process V-ring pressure is very important in reducing the amount of die-roll. A great reference source of information is a book called Cold Forming and Fineblanking. I'm not sure of the authors name but the ISBN is 3-444-10510-X Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply It is a perfect definition as it is simple but to the point. I have heard of the book you recommened but did not know the ISBN so thank you again for all your help. Emma
