I know it's been over a month since your post but here's two cents worth:  I've used Pro/E all day, every day for the past 11 years.  Powerful but can take a while to learn the quirks.  I used Autocad before and after switching it seemed like I'd been chiselling in stone.  I tried out Inventor and it was a big leap over traditional Autocad, but  I've begun using Alibre at home and it's been great, especially for its price.  If you get a student version note if it's only good for a set time, like a two year license.

Think the lastest ACAD version is 15. Go to your favorite search engine (Google or Yahoo) and search for "Student Version ACAD".  You can buy the student version for about $350.  You will need a student ID to complete the purchase.  Additionally, check out ACAD Lite. There are several other CAD packages out there.  Such as Solid Edge, Solid Works, Pro-e.
