Hi there, I am a student engineer working for a company for the holiday period. One of my tasks is to design a steam vent silencer to reduce the noise level which is around 110dB. A major constraint of the design is that it needs to be greatly free flowing as there is a 'resin' content in the steam which can block silencers containing perforated steel inside them. I know that a sudden increase in volume will reduce the velocity of the steam, but will this also reduce the noise?? Any suggestions regarding the design are greatly appreciated as the design of these units are a closely guarded secret and i can find very little theory on it. |
