I have need to design a cam with four lobes such that it can actuate a link (linear motion) four times for every 360 degree rotation.
Would some please tell me how to go about this? All calculations and formula, texts, and softwares may be be recommended as well. Thanks Modified by lo_gian at Sun, Jan 30, 2005, 11:50:36 |

Give us more info on the application. A cam is usually an expensive solution. It may be that a simple mechanism may do it. |

Cam function to open and close hole(parts drops through). To be timed such that that it occurs within a circle of completed part. Rocker will be 'L' shaped with hinged at the elbow. Follower at one end. The calculations may include procedure to get accurate profile such that it can go through 4 circles for one complete revolution. It takes 4 minutes to complete a part which should be discharged inmmediately. What timing and profiles do I need? Thanks for your help; a new area for me. |

Have you looked at a geneva mechanism. Seems to me that it could easily do it. Any book on mechanism will give you an idea. |
