Hi All, I have an urgent question need to be addressed. We found some nuts from our vendor are with thread incomplete. But if they use a plug gage to test with the nut with a extra effort to screw in, they succeed.

First, does the purchase order, contract, of blue print state a thread standard? If it does then you have every right to expect the product to meet that standard. No standard I know of allows for using a plug gauge to size a thread. Taps and other devices are for cutting threads and gauges are for checking to see if the thread process meets the standard the plug gauge is made to check. Using a thread plug gauge to size or de-burr a thread is not good for the gauge. Excessive force should NEVER be used. I often even held back a new plug gauge to check behind an often used plug gauge, once and a while, to see if it was overly warn and allowing bad threads to pass. Just using a plug gauge eventually renders it warn out. Excessive force just brings on that condition more quickly. Now, having said the above, it is still your final choice as a customer to accept or reject a threaded product if it does not meet the thread standard stated on the paper work. You may accept them if the final product is not critical and the threaded product is fully fuctional. If you have not stated a thread standard you have a different problem and should next time. -randy- The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them.
