Is there a source for IP standards and their definitions as relate to electric motors?

The spec you need is IEC-529. You can get the spec from Information Handling Service or any other source of industry standards. |

IP rating refers to ingress protection rating. The first digit refers to the level of solids protection.
1=> 50mm 2= >12mm 3 =>2.5mm 4= >1mm 5 = Dust protected 6= Dust tight Second digit refers to level of water protection 1= dripping water
Thus IP 54 is dust protected & splash protected, which is Ok for most electric motors, but may go to IP55 |
