Hi all , I need to make a vessel to be under external pressure or with vacuum inside.
The vacuum will be no more than -500 mBar relative, or about 15 inch HG.
This vessel will be made from, a standard PVC pipe 508 mm 9.5 mm thick or [20" ] Schedule 20.

Please I need to know if it will resiste such pressure.

Or give me the formula that handle such topic.
thanks in advance

For a long cylinder or sphere, the wall stress is
p=PD/(2t)
where
p= compresive stress in wall
P=diff between external and internal pressures
t=wall thickness
D=dia of vessel
Make sure your dimensions are consistent and look out for the end cap stresses for cylinder.
