Right now I am doing a little research on how much shrinkage to expect on a weldment of 17-4PH S.S.. I have two different joints 1.A butt-joint, 7” long single-bevel-groove weld on 1.25” plate. 2.A butt-joint, 21" long double-bevel-groove weld on 1.25" plate. Looking in the AWS welding handbook, vol. 1 (eighth edition) pgs 244 and 249 offer equations to calculate transverse and longitudinal shrinkage, but how would these apply to this 17-4? The equation for transverse shrinkage(pg 244) includes a coefficient, but no explanation as to what it would be…any ideas? Any insight you can offer is appreciated. |
