Anyone offer up any suggestions for alternative material to replace .25" thick 1045 part made in a 3 stage forming die that would give me similar strength and elongation properties? |

I would prefer to not have to heat treat. That adds a variable and a cost into the part I would like to avoid. |

If you don't like an alloyed steel (much expensive), use 1030 or 1022. Also, 1117 or 1137 normalized are good. |

I tend to use 1018 CF. It welds well, machines well, is easy to work with and is easy to get. In fact I tend to use it more that 1045. It is not quite as strong but a fairly good match in my opinion. This comes from my strong machine shop background.
