I am using the Tensile Stress Area calculator on this web site and had some confusion about one of the inputs. It asks for the minimum pitch diameter as an input but in the example it shows the input for a 1/2-13 UNC-2A to be it's minimum minor diameter. Can anyone offer information on whether to use minimum pitch diameter or minimum minor thread diameter when figuring tensile stress area of a thread?
