Hi, i need some advice on how to settl this problem, An airport has long stainless steel pipe inside steel structure; span between support is 12m. There's pipe connection in between (direct welding joint) The client is worried that there may be vibration caused by the water flow, and that the vibration may weaken the welding joint in long run.
Lets say they measured the extent of vibration, or the frequency of vibration; how do we relate this to the welding joint? thanks. |

I suppose the only way to treat this would be to: 1. Measure the frequency and amplitude of vibration, 2. Use this to estimate a time-varying force, 3. Treat as dynamic loading on the weld joint, using dynamic loading data that may be available for your weld material. Trouble is, the quality of the weld will affect the dynamic loading characteristics. Sorry I cant give you a more involved solution at this point... Im quite busy! |
