Hi, I would like to know if the temperature has an impact on the compression spring rate ? We test the spring at ambient temperature and the customer will use at -50F, what could happen ? Thank |

Hi there, I've had a look in my spring design guide and there is referece to a general rule of thumb that the Elastic Modulus of the material will change by 3% with each 100 deg C change in temperature, however I'm not sure if this rule applies with temps below freezing. The fact that the guide does not refer to any issues with temps below zero is encouraging though as it does give the max opperating temps for each material type! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! |
