hi i am a mechanical engineer doing a project in a port trust
we are having a problem with the wire ropes used for unloading ore from the barges using a grab(scissor type) the wire ropes fray every 8 shifts this is mainly due to friction wear when the ropes rub against each other. the vertical and horizontal ropes at the grab during normal operation.
2 pulleys to the opposite scissor ends so its the same rope which rubs against itself this description is a bit wierd consider it as opening and closing of a scissor using two ropes

One apparatus I've seen on wire rope systems to control line movement is a line guide. I envision two short pieces of pipe with belled ends, a little larger in ID than the wire rope, with a steel bar welded between them. The wire rope is threaded through (or the pipe is attached around the rope) and the ropes are held apart. The apparatus is supported by one or more lines attached from overhead structure to the steel bar between the pipes. It just dangles there and holds the lines from swaying and banging into each other. |
