I just happended to stumble on some info that might be helpful while I was looking for something else. I was on the Snap-On sight and they show dimensions for all of their parts. Just look of "socket" in their parts catalog and find a set that you want dimensions for. When you click on the set you want, you will get a parts list. When you click on each individual part it gives you dimensions. Snap-On lists ASME/ANSI B107.1-1993 as their dimensional standard for their sockets. I can pull this up at work because we have a license that lets us see all of the military and comercial standards. Otherwise you have to pay for each individual document. I scanned through this standard and it lists max. outer diameters for each size of socket. Often manufactures will list tables like these on their websites. You might find some socket manufacturers who have listed the tables corresponding to their dimensional standards. I hope this helps. Jeff

I know this is not the answer you are seeking but I have a comment for you as a future socket designer. Having been that I have used sockets plenty often for over 45 years, I think my opinion may be worth something. It is my opinion that you want the least thickness you can stand (less OD) and still maintain a strong enough socket. I have no idea how many times I have needed to get a socket into a space that it would not fit because it was too darned big around. I know it has been many times, and those always seem to be the times you do not have to waste fighting with a bolt you can't find a tool to fit into the space it was designed into by some needs to be fired engineer. Please, design some strong thin sockets and sell them to us who need them. While you are at it design some really short ones for the same reason.
