I need help!! I have a machine that my company designed and built from the ground up. The problem is that the heart of the machine is the "Tunnel" In the tunnel there is a wear surface and wear pads that are supposed to accept any wear that occurs. The problem is that the wear surfaces keep gauling. Not to the point of stoping the machine but defianatly causing premature were. We have tried several different material. A-2,0-6, cast iron, A-11, to name a few. It is a very exspensive process to change these materials as there are many parts involved. The loads on the parts are around 40 lbs. and there is approx. 24 sq. inches to divide that load over. The machine runs between 30 and 150 feet per minute. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? I am desperate!!

Try investigating.....coatings for the wear pads....Teflon etc.. Good Luck

I don't have information on the shape of product.. is it fairly smooth on the bottom? The reason I am asking is; You may try UHMW.. this is a utra-highdensity polyetholine product that comes in sheets of various thickness and sizes. You purchase it from a plastics supplier. I would either purchase it with a stickly peal back and stick it down to a well cleaned and dried surface or counter sink it and screw it down FLAT with flat head screws. It would be easy to replace and has amazing wear qualities. .. don't tighten the screws so tight that it bulges around them and I recommend 3/8" thick if you screw it down. HDPE.. Highdensity polyurethane, would not be dense enough. This will not work if you have a high temperature situation. Good luck... please let us know if this helped. I'm going to be away for a few days. The surfaces are ground with about a 32 micro finish. I have had some limited experience with UHMW and it was actually suggested at an earlier stage in the project. Perhaps it is time to revisit some older ideas. I do appreciate the input.
