I teach the 1st and 2nd year curricula at the Denver Joint Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program. My students would like to know definitively whether or not differences exist between the appropriate thread pitches for threaded conduit and threaded plumbing pipes. For instance, we know that the National Electrical Code requires ¾" taper per foot for rigid conduit. We are told by some experts that plumbing installations using threaded pipe also require ¾" taper per foot. That would certainly indicate that the same dies could be used for all same-size piping needs on any given job, unless there are differences in the pitch. Is it appropriate and correct to thread both with the SAME SET OF DIES??

As far as I know , when NEC talk about a 3/4" taper per foot thread , it talk about the same pipe used by plumbers normally the NTPT standard .
NTPT stand for National Thread Pipe Taper It is used mainly at Explosión proof system.

Machinery's Handbook is an excellent reference for thread specs. R. McCullough |
