How do I calculate the Maximum Allowable Weight that a pad eye can lift with the following dimensions: 4"W x 8"L x 1/2" thickness (Mild Steel-Hot Rolled FLAT BAR) The eye (hole) is located @ 2 1/2" on center from the top of the flat bar. Thanks, Mpanajon |

What size is the hole? Is it drilled or flame cut? What plane does the strap run, 8" length being horozontial or verticle? And last, but not least, how is the strap attached to the piece being lifted? Welded or some other way. A drawing would help. Thanks, Scooter |

The hole size is 2-3/8 inch diameter and is drilled out on a mill with a carbide hole saw. The pad-eye will positioned vertically on its edge that is bevelled and will be welded. |
