I was wondering about types of material and heat treatment for pins and bushings for equipment such as Bob cats and back hoes, is there a good "off the shelf" material that can be used without heat treating. Also what about the difference in hardness between the pin and the bushing, assuming that the bushings cost less I would think that these would be the wear item, Any suggestions. K.Dunn |

use 4140 HT (comes heat treated "out of the box")and a good thick grease and/or anti-seize but... if you want to earn points or awards try 15-5PH Stainless Steel and heat treat to about 35-38RC ... mighty tough stuff ... used for the clevis and pins to hold jet engines on airliners.... ... (enough said?) The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. You may want to try some tooling and fixture component catalogs like Carr-Lane or Reid Tool. Good Luck |
