As we approach the July 1st deadline for RoHS/WEEE compliance is your company ready? I'm finding that some US companies will not make the deadline and will comply when they're ready. I found a transformer manufacturer that told me that they will not comply and go find another transformer mfr if we didn't like it. A lot of temp agencies are farming out people to sit on websites to upload certs and call companies to see if they comply. What's your company doing?

For thoses that do not know what RoHs is: Rohs is a regulatory directive required to be activated by July 1. This directive is applicable to EU memeber nations, and establishes rules at the EU level. Technically, each nation must pass thier own laws to ensure compliance. In particular the RoHS directive requires that certain (six) hazardous materials be removed from all electrical electronic equipment and products. The six are: Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Mercury, and Polbrominated Biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). This is all wonderfull, though compliance is not optional, not all EU nations have passed the requisite legislation to require affected companies to comply. Depending on which contry you sell your products in, will ultimately (in the near future) affect your products compliance. To answer your question, untill regulations are in place across most EU nations, you will continue to have challenges getting many organizations to comply. Most companies will only rspond to your pressure and regulation. |
