Since where are talking computer.. I built my first computer two weeks ago. As some of you are aware, I do more than run Engineers Edge, I also train and do some consulting. Often, I review customers CAD and print files. So, I need a high end work station to handle the files. I have to be able to review models from Nastran, CATIA, Solid Edge, Pro-e, and Autodesk. I have several computers I use, I have a laptop (five years old) for travel, presentations, email, and general stuff. I have an old Dell workstation - Precision 420 (seven years old) I use for web development and any CAD or analysis I need to run. I also have a mid range server for backups, network hub, and printer hosting. The Engineers Edge is not hosted on any of these computers BTW. As you can see, I have had computing horse power problems. So I built the following performance computer: Case: Cooler Master: CM Stacker RC-810
Now, those of you who recognize this hardware are saying "is'nt that a gaming setup?" - yes it is, however, it runs all of my CAD programs like champ - simultaneously... I'm actually surprised at how stable the machine is. I finally moved all of my applications from the old Dell workstation to my new computer Monday. I'll keep the old Dell workstation for just in case. Am I going to have any surprises with this hardware and my CAD hardware? Modified by Kelly_Bramble at Thu, Jun 15, 2006, 22:28:40 |
