I think I can remember reading somewhere that a coiled spring pins have more strengh in shear than a solid dowel pin. Can anyone confirm this. Thank you for any help given |

For identical sizes (diameter) and material, no. There will be less material cross section (area) to resist the shear load. The advantage of a hollow cylinder over a solid, is that it will weight much less. |
