I need help locating a rubber or rubber-like material. The application is on a floorlock on a material handling cart. The floorlock has a rubber pad (shore A 60) on the bottom. The pad contacts the floor, locking the cart in place. I have a situation where the floor is very shiney and smooth, so the cart can be moved even when the floorlock is triggered. So, I need to identify an alternative material to use. The current pad is mounted using 4 flat head 1/4" screws. It is 4" x 4" x 3/8" thick. I would prefer sueing something as close to "off the shelf" as possible. I don't want to have to have a special mold made if I don't have to. I search for manufacturers of shoe soles, floor mats, conveyor belts, and a few other things. But I haven't really found anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your cart must not weight much. You need to match the rubber stop material with the weight of the cart as well as the floor roughness. A softer material as Randy has suggested is a good place to start. Also, you should consider how the rubber stop contacts the floor. A convex shape may be more suitable, or using a rotating extension arm mechanism. For a realy light cart, you may need a door stop like mechanism which increases the resistance as one pushes against it. Increasing the contact area is another possible solution. |

Silicone has a good tendency to grip smooth surfaces. You must find ways to remove dirt build up off whatever friction material you decide to try. The dirt or dust crust or film will prevent the material from actually contacting the floor. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |
